Product Installation

We
encourage our clients to use experienced precast installers or masons who
specialize in this or similar type of work. Since precast is the finish product
on the house that people see, it is important to have quality material and
installation. Experience and reputation are important factors to achieve a good
quality installation. It is usually a good idea to visit project sites to see
prior installation jobs of installers. Setting
the pieces
Most
of our products are set on brown coat of stucco using thin set and are
reinforced with mechanical attachment such as galvanized screws. In some
applications you may have to use construction adhesive to bond the pieces on
other surfaces. We insert galvanized brackets in our pieces during
manufacturing. If there is a case, where there is no room for the bracket to be
attached, you may drill through the piece using concrete drill bit and put the
screw through the hole. Make sure you counter sink the screw hole, so when you
patch the screw hole it is even with the surface. ¼” joint is typical when
putting two pieces together, unless specified. The
joints may be grouted using same color grout provided by the manufacturer or you
may also use ready mix grouts that are available at most building supply stores.
Joints could also be caulked instead of grout. The advantage of caulking is that
it does not crack, because it is flexible. We recommend using Sikaflex-1A for
caulking. Field
Cutting
Field
cutting is required in many cases to fit the specific job’s conditions. Our
products may be cut using concrete blades preferable diamond blade. In most
cases four and seven inch diamond blades will do the job. Clean
up
Care should be taken during installation. Mortar spills should be cleaned immediately using water. You may also clean the precast pieces using soap and water. Other masonry cleaners are available at specialty stores.
